Enhance the Look of Your Lips

a woman's smileIf you want to enhance the shape and volume of your lips, lip surgery performed by Dr. Azita Madjidi at her Houston office can give you beautiful, flattering results.

Luscious lips are an important element in facial aesthetics. Thin lips may be the result of aging or just normal anatomy. With aging, the lips not only thin but also roll inward. Lip rejuvenation may require different options based on the anatomy of the lips, their relationship with the teeth during smile, and skin texture. Houston plastic surgeon Dr. Azita Madjidi listens to your concerns and thoroughly examines your lips’ anatomy and dynamics. She will discuss different options that will allow you to obtain a realistically achievable improvement.

Lip Augmentation

Look at Lip Augmentation Before & After Photos

“The goal is to obtain fuller lips that look normal and move naturally.”

Options vary from fat injection, lip implants, and injectable fillers, to more sophisticated surgery such as lip advancement. Fat grafting for lip augmentation can help to push lips out. The effect of most injectable fillers in lip rejuvenation is immediate but temporary and lasts about six months to a year. Fillers can be injected to the line around the mouth to give a better definition to the lip contour, or within the red portion of the lip for more fullness. However, the lip is mobile and fillers in the lip usually do not last as long as in the laugh lines.

Lip implants are great alternative for lip augmentation. They are made of solid silicone therefore do not rupture. They come in different sizes and lengths. The implant is placed into the deep thickness of the red portion of the lip; therefore it is not visible and gives a natural full aspect to the lip. It moves with the lip and follows its movements. A small incision is made in the corner of the mouth and the implant is tunneled into the lip. It takes about thirty minutes in the office once the area is numbed to complete the treatment. During the consultation for lip augmentation with implants, Dr. Madjidi will evaluate your lips and go over more details. They can easily be removed or exchanged. In most cases, Dr. Madjidi places an implant in both upper and lower lips but one lip can be implanted if the other one is already proportionate. Upper and lower lip implants may have different lengths or thicknesses.

Lip implants give more fullness and fillers are more helpful for the contour. They could be combined if necessary for overall improvement, especially for the vertical lines around the mouth.

Fat injection, implants, and surgery provide a permanent effect. For fine wrinkle improvement, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or laser resurfacing may also be considered.

Lip enhancement may be done as an office procedure or in conjunction with other surgeries.

“I personally perform the procedure and follow my patients during recovery.”

Recovery after lip enhancement depends on what has been done to the lips. Downtime is in general minimal. The lip is very vascular so the swelling is quick to appear and lasts about a week to 10 days. After implant placement, Dr. Madjidi will give you post-operative instructions for the first few weeks.

When fillers are used for lip enhancement, bruising and swelling are usually gone in a few days.
