Restore Volume and Fullness to Your Appearance

woman's vibrant faceIf your face or any other area of your body has lost its definition, fat injection treatment, performed by Dr. Azita Madjidi at her Houston, Texas office, can help you reclaim a beautiful, vibrant appearance.

With aging, facial fat diminishes causing wrinkles, folds, and flat cheeks. Restoring volume and fullness by replenishing the hollowed area provides a more youthful appearance. Houston plastic surgeon, Dr. Azita Madjidi, uses fat grafting methods to bring subtle changes to specific areas such as cheeks, lips, temples, the forehead, or any depressed area in the body amenable to this technique. The fat comes from the patient's own body.

The Fat Injection Procedure

Fat injection, fat grafting, and fat transfer are all different names used for an old technique that has been refined and popularized in recent years. Using a patient's own fat for injections provides numerous benefits. The fat contains stem cells which help to regenerate tissues; in effect, it is alive and will age with you. Since it is your fat, it is completely safe and there is no chance of rejection. The fat is taken from where you don't want it and re-injected to places where you do: cheekbones, lips, chin, laugh lines, and even the buttocks. A delicate liposuction technique is used to obtain the fat, usually from the abdomen or the thighs. It is then carefully separated from oil and extra fluid and transferred to the areas that need plumping. The injection is done with tiny, blunt canulas and fat is deposited very delicately in small tunnels, and in different layers in the treated area.

The face is one of the areas where fat grafting works best, as it offers a wonderful alternative to facelift. If there is not a lot of skin laxity, fat grafting helps to restore volume that is lost with aging, in areas such as the cheeks, lips, chin, orbits, and temples. It will also improve depressed scars, such as acne scars. The procedure can be repeated until the desired shape is obtained. Fat grafting can be done in conjunction with a facelift or eyelid surgery for enhanced results. There is little or no downtime. The immediate swelling lasts about two to four days then it will resolve over a week to 10 days.

During consultation, Dr. Madjidi listens to your concerns and discusses different options. She will provide the details about fat grafting. Several sessions may be necessary to obtain the desired effect, based on the area and the amount of fat needed.

Fat injection may be done alone or in combination with other surgeries.

"I personally perform the procedure and follow my patients during recovery."

Dr. Madjidi offers this procedure to all of her patients who have had fillers in the cheeks and would like to have a more permanent and natural way of enhancing their cheeks and face. The fat is grafted in its new location, which means that your own body will grow new blood supply to support it. In some instances, some of the fat may reabsorb based on your body's metabolism. In general it will reabsorb on both sides in the same manner.

The result of the treatment is a very natural look because it restores the lost fat. There is no incision so there is no visible scar. There are many indications for fat grafting. There is no age limit in doing the procedure and Dr. Madjidi performs fat grafting in children with congenital malformations or to treat depressed scars. Though most people are candidates for the procedure, if you are a marathon runner and have little body fat, other alternatives will be discussed.
