Mid-facelift Surgery for Brighter Eyes and Defined Cheeks

A woman with smooth skin, framing her face with handsSome patients are dissatisfied with the appearance of loose skin that has developed around their cheeks and eyes. However, they still have distinct jawlines and youthful chins. A mid-facelift, performed by Dr. Azita Madjidi, is a facelift technique that specifically targets the middle portion of the face. It is especially beneficial for younger patients in their 30s and 40s who are not ready for a full lift. When patients undergo the mid-facelift procedure at our Houston practice, Dr. Madjidi creates a treatment plan that will address their individual concerns and enhance their natural beauty. Candidates for Mid-facelifts

To be considered a good candidate for the mid-facelift procedure, you must meet several criteria. You should:

  • Be in good general health
  • Not have a history of heart or pulmonary conditions, which can cause complications with anesthesia
  • Not smoke
  • Not be nursing or pregnant
  • Have defined goals for surgery and realistic expectations for the outcome
  • Have drooping cheeks and/or loose skin around the eyes

Dr. Madjidi will determine your candidacy for a mid-facelift at your initial consultation.

The Mid-facelift Procedure

Typically, you will receive general anesthesia before your mid-facelift. After you are sedated, Dr. Madjidi will make several small incisions. She will carefully conceal these incisions around your ear and in your hairline. Because of her great precision, scarring will be minimal and discreet. Once she has created the incisions, Dr. Madjidi will carefully lift the fat pads on your cheeks, using tiny sutures to hold them in place. She will also lift the muscles in the middle of your face. If necessary, she will remove any damaged tissue or stubborn fat deposits. Finally, she will close the incisions using sutures or surgical tape.

Recovery from a Mid-facelift

Because a mid-facelift targets a more localized area of the face, recovery is typically easier and faster than healing from a full facelift. Complete recovery may take a week to 10 days, although most swelling and bruising should subside within the first 48 hours. To further enhance your healing, you should use ice packs and sleep with your head elevated for a few days after your procedure. Non-prescription pain medication is typically enough to reduce any post-treatment discomfort.

Results and Risks

The mid-facelift procedure is safe. Complications are rare and could include adverse reactions to anesthesia, blood clots, hematoma, infection, numbness, and facial paralysis. However, when you receive a mid-facelift from an experienced surgeon like Dr. Madjidi, these risks are negligible.

Mid-facelifts are also extremely effective, and they can have dramatic benefits for your overall appearance. Some of the results of a mid-facelift include:

  • More youthful, defined cheeks
  • Reduced puffiness under your eyes
  • Reduced nasolabial folds
  • More alert eyes
  • An overall more youthful appearance
