Reclaim a Youthful Contour in Your Face

dark-haired young womanChin projection is an important factor in facial balance and aesthetics. In men and women, the chin can be altered to create a harmonious look to the framework of the face. If your chin has lost definition, chin surgery – performed by Dr. Azita Madjidi at our Houston , Texas office – can help you reclaim a youthful jaw line contour.

A weak chin makes the nose seem too big even when it is in balance with the rest of the face. It can also blur the chin into the neck, especially when the neck tissue is loose or too fat. Finally, mouth closure is altered in presence of a weak chin in a way that the lips remain open at rest and extra muscular effort must be done to close the mouth. This muscular effort may be visible as a series of small dimples and an abnormal chin shape. With aging, the chin can sag and present an indentation underneath it, when viewed from the side. Finally, the chin can be asymmetric and deviated to one side, too long, or too strong.

If loss of chin definition is causing you to feel self-conscious, chin surgery at our Houston office can help you reclaim beauty and self-esteem. Contact us today to schedule a consultation.

Your Chin Surgery Consultation

During consultation, Houston plastic surgeon, Dr. Azita Madjidi listens to your concerns and analyzes your face. If chin surgery is considered, Dr. Madjidi will discuss different options to correct your chin. She will explain options pertinent to your needs. Sometimes, a consultation for for a nose job or a neck lift highlights the fact that the chin needs to be modified to satisfy the patient's wishes. If advancing the chin is necessary based on the clinical exam, three options are available: fat grafting, implant placement, or genioplasty which is advancing the chin bone. Fat grafting can advance the chin for a millimeter or two. Up to six millimeters of advancement may be achieved with a chin implant. It could be placed through a small incision inside the lower lip or a small incision below the chin, at the time of the neck lift.

When more than six millimeters of advancement is required, the chin bone will be brought forward through a small incision inside the lower lip. The result is permanent and more natural.

BOTOX® Cosmetic can also be a valuable adjunct to improving chin aspect. The small dimples that form when the lips close together can be softened with a BOTOX® injections just in that area.

If the chin is sagging and the jowls are prominent, a small area of depression is created on either side of the chin and a lower facelift is needed to achieve the best contour.

Your Chin Augmentation will be performed in Dr. Azita Madjidi’s office in Houston, TX.

Bruising and swelling should subside within a week or two and final result should appear in four to six weeks. A small compressive bandage is used right after surgery to minimize the swelling. With chin surgery, revisions may be necessary in a few instances. After a genioplasty, some numbness may appear around the chin though it usually subsides in a few days or weeks. The chin bone in genioplasty is healed in six weeks and new bone will form a new contour to the lower jaw. An implant is not a lifetime device and may need to be removed or replaced years later.
