Rest and Recovery

When you wake up from your surgery, your nurse will monitor your initial recovery. You will be able to go home within a few hours. However, you will need to arrange for a ride home prior to your treatment. If possible, find someone who can stay with you for the first 24 hours to help you with routine tasks. You will typically experience some swelling and discomfort for the first few days. You can usually control any pain with mild medication, such as ibuprofen. Dr. Madjidi may also provide prescription medications to prevent infection.

You should wear a compression bra or bandage for about a week after your surgery. This surgical garment will enhance healing and help your breasts adjust to their new shape. It will also protect the incisions from chafing and irritation.

After your breast augmentation, you should plan to take about a week off from work. You should also avoid strenuous physical activity until Dr. Madjidi gives her approval. However, moderate activity, such as walking, can encourage healing and reduce the risk of blog clots.

Temporary Side Effects

Breast augmentation is a low-risk procedure. However, you may experience some short-term side effects. These include:

  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Reduced sensation in your nipples
  • Mild irritation
  • Itching

Additionally, it may take a few months for your final results to become visible. As the breasts settle into the breast pocket and swelling fades, you will be able enjoy the results of your breast augmentation procedure.

Minimizing Scars

Breast augmentation will leave some minimal scarring. Dr. Madjidi uses extremely precise techniques, and she will carefully place the incisions in the folds of your breasts or in other inconspicuous locations. Nevertheless, there are several things you can do to further minimize the appearance of your scars. For example:

  • Many topical ointments can reduce scarring
  • Wear your compression garment as directed by Dr. Madjidi
  • Silicone bandages can seal off the incisions and create a better environment for healing
  • Gentle massages around the incisions can increase blood flow to the area
  • Avoid touching or pulling at the incisions, which can increase the risk of infection or re-opening of the incision site

Bear in mind that your scars will fade naturally with time. They will typically be a bit more noticeable several weeks after your surgery. However, this is a natural part of the healing process, and within a few months, they should be subtle.
