Breast Lift versus Breast Augmentation

A breast lift and a breast augmentation are performed to achieve two different goals. Augmentation is a process of surgically placing breast implants to increase a patient’s bust size. A breast lift, on the other hand, is a process of removing excess skin from the breasts, and repositioning the remaining skin and tissue to lift the nipple and improve the contour of the breasts, resulting in a perkier bust line. In essence, breast augmentation addresses breast size, while a breast lift eliminates sagging or drooping of the breasts.

Based on the amount of lift needed, the scar will be different. For a small lift, the scar can be placed above or around the areola. For a moderate lift, they will be around the areola and under the breast. For bigger lifts, they will be around the areola, under the breast, and in the fold.
