Turn Back the Clock with Cosmetic Facial Surgery
Has aging caused your face to lose its definition and youthful contour? A facelift performed by Dr. Azita Madjidi at her Houston, Texas office can enhance your appearance and boost your self-esteem.
If you are bothered by sagging cheeks, deep creases below the lower eyelids, a loose lower face and neck, or irregular jaw line, you may be a candidate for a facelift. Facelift, also called rhytidectomy, treats most of the signs of aging on your face. One of the areas to which Houston plastic surgeon Dr. Madjidi has dedicated a major part of her training as a craniofacial surgeon, is the face. It is the first thing we see in a meeting, and a fresh, rested, and naturally young looking face is quite important.
Signs of aging appear gradually over the years and affect all parts of our face. Based on a patient's age, skin type, and necessary amount of correction, one or more areas of the face may need to be treated either at the same time or in a sequence. This ensures a more harmonious and natural look.

The Facelift Procedure
The goal of a facelift is to correct some of the signs of aging, such as the sagging of the midface, the jowls, and the neck. It will correct different layers of the facial structures. During the procedure, Dr. Madjidi will lift the muscle layer, replace the displaced cheek fat, and remove excess skin, all while carefully working toward a more youthful and natural look. A facelift, however, will not correct fine wrinkles, sun spots, or modify the skin texture. The upper face is not changed by a facelift alone.
Dr. Madjidi will analyze your face and go over different options and areas that need to be addressed. Each face has a different anatomy; therefore, each patient has different needs for correction. There are many variations of the facelift technique and Dr. Madjidi will customize it to your particular facial features. It is important that the end result be natural and matches the rest of you.
Other adjunct procedures can enhance the overall results and rejuvenation. Some of them, such as eyelid surgery, fat injection, browlift, neck liposuction, or chin surgery, can be done at the same time. Others, such as chemical peels or laser resurfacing have to be done later.
During consultation, Dr. Madjidi will listen to your priorities, discuss your options, and help you to identify a realistically achievable goal. She wants to give you choices and ensure that you are informed of what is best for your face in order to achieve a natural looking result.
Dr. Madjidi will describe the placement of scars, post-operative care, and follow-up. She will take her time to answer your questions.
After your facelift, bruising and swelling should subside in two to four weeks. The final result is usually achieved in a month or two. Scars, initially pink, will soften and fade within a year.
When a facelift is done at a younger age, results are longer lasting because of better skin elasticity. If the neck has good contour and only the lower and midface need to be lifted, Dr. Madjidi will perform a short scar facelift where incisions are limited to the front and slightly behind the ear. In a more extensive facelift, incisions are prolonged for a small distance on each side. In men, facelift scars are placed in a different area to better hide them. These details are discussed at length during a facelift consultation with Dr. Madjidi.
