Enhanced Size, Shape and Contour
Enhancing a patient’s bust line does not always require breast implants. A breast lift, or mastopexy, can help sagging breasts appear perkier and more youthful without implants. In some cases, a breast lift may be recommended to optimize the results of an augmentation. Patients can undergo a breast lift with and without implants at the Houston practice of Dr. Azita Madjidi. She will perform a thorough physical examination, as well as comprehensive consultation, to determine whether combining breast lift and breast augmentation is the best way to meet your goals. This consultation can also determine if the breast lift or placement of implants should be performed first. In order to achieve the best possible results, Dr. Madjidi never performs the two procedures at the same time. Contact us today to learn more.
A breast lift and a breast augmentation are performed to achieve two different goals. Augmentation is a process of surgically placing breast implants to increase a patient’s bust size. A breast lift, on the other hand, is a process of removing excess skin from the breasts, and repositioning the remaining skin and tissue to lift the nipple and improve the contour of the breasts, resulting in a perkier bust line. In essence, breast augmentation addresses breast size, while a breast lift eliminates sagging or drooping of the breasts.
A breast lift is typically recommended for patients who are unhappy with sagging breasts, but are happy with their volume in a bra. As we age, skin loses its elasticity, and this can allow gravity to take a greater toll on the bust line. Sagging can also occur after pregnancy and breastfeeding, or following substantial weight loss. In this case, the breasts are also atrophied and have lost their fullness. A breast lift alone, however, will not suffice if you are unhappy with the volume of your bust. If you would like your breasts to be larger, fuller, and perkier, a combination of breast lift and breast augmentation may be your best option.
Although many surgeons will perform a breast lift at the same time as breast implant placement, the two procedures achieve two very different goals. Instead of potentially traumatizing the patient’s breasts with opposing forces, Dr. Madjidi will decide, on a case by case basis, which surgery should be performed first, allowing the tissues to heal properly between procedures. A breast lift combined with breast augmentation can help you achieve a dramatic overall enhancement that helps you feel supremely confident about your appearance.
Based on the amount of lift needed, the scar will be different. For a small lift, the scar can be placed above or around the areola. For a moderate lift, they will be around the areola and under the breast. For bigger lifts, they will be around the areola, under the breast, and in the fold.
If you are unhappy with the appearance of your breasts for any reason, including their size, shape, or position, cosmetic breast surgery can help you achieve the look you desire.
